Thoughts on my breast augmentation surgery

Incisions

Being fortunate to never have had any serious injuries in my life, my body is essentially scar-less. So the very idea of having self induced surgery and scarring was a bit questionable.

There are several types of incisions that one may choose for their BA procedure. For example, the areolar (around the nipple), the armpit, the belly button, and the crease incision. Doing a bit of research, and asking friends and family about the types of incisions they selected, made it easier for me to make my own decision of the type of incision I would choose.

Dr. Galante spoke to me about the areolar incision, but explained that potential scarring around the nipple was not very appealing to the eye. As for the other two incisions, the armpit and the belly button, these types of incisions cause excess scar tissue, longer recovery, and more pain.

My closest family and friends have all done theirs with a crease incision. Dr. Galante explained that this type of incision is the most direct way to perform the surgery. The crease incision makes it easier for him to make a pocket underneath the muscle, therefore the implants are secure, easily inserted, and cause far less scar tissue. If one chooses to have their incision through the belly button the first procedure is the only time it can be done. If by chance you have complications, or ten years down the road you have to have them redone, this option is no longer available. Then, I would have three scars opposed to two.

I told Doctor to do what he does and I fully support his decision and reasoning. The crease scars are located underneath each breast and are unable to be seen unless looking for them. They are very small and can be compared to a small "sharpie" marker line. For me I feel this was the the best choice Dr. Galante and I could have made. After all, I worked so hard to get my abs conditioned the way they are and I do not want to start over from scratch!

Confirmed Decision

Today my decision to have BA surgery was completely encouraged by the short comings of my bra. It is so annoying that I am constantly adjusting myself after every move I make. Bras are uncomfortable enough and when I do not have anything to go in them... You get what I mean. Some days I wear padding while, others a plain old sports bra. Regardless, the annoyance of the constant game of tug of war has gone on long enough. The battle will finally be won and I will be able to wear; halter tops, strapless tops, pad-less bras, and any bathing suit I wish! Wow! How amazing is that going to be? I am really looking forward to this, only three more days! =)

Choosing a Size

Now this is the FUN part! It is really crazy to think that in a few days I will have an amazing set of BREASTS! Before I was formally introduced to the world of plastic surgery... I thought breast implants only looked one way, VERY LARGE! I was stunned to find that women who choose extremely large breasts are not at all the norm. In fact tons of women have breast implants, but they look so natural that one would never even know (unless of course they were told).

Those that know me on a day to day basis will definitely notice a difference, but those who don't, won't... and that is how I chose my size. I did not ask Dr. Galante about a certain number of cc's or anything like that. I told him I would like to be a C cup. He agreed, saying that a C cup would be reasonable for my body structure. I heard that many women wish they would have gone bigger after the completion of their surgery and recovery. Knowing this I told him to go bigger rather than smaller because the last thing you want to be is disappointed! So at some point this coming Friday I will be an official C cup, very excited!

Under or Over the Muscle

There are two options when having breast augmentation surgery, either under or over the muscle. Prior to my first visit with Dr. Galante I was set on having my surgery over the muscle. I had heard that women who lift weights should consider going over the muscle because this would allow for more flexibility of the implants. Going over the muscle seemed to make perfect sense. I thought great, my implants will be on top, therefore I can continue to develop the muscle underneath and that would be fantastic.

Well, after meeting with Dr. Galante my bubble was burst. He explained that many women do go over the muscle, but there are risks involved in doing so. Choosing to have Dr. Galante for my procedure meant that I would have to consider a few things I was not aware of. First, he recommended that I no longer train my chest muscles the way I once did. Trying to stay as feminine in this area as possible I usually trained a bit lighter here anyway, but nevertheless I trained hard.

The reason behind Dr. Galante's philosophy is that going over the muscle with saline implants may cause visible wrinkles through the skin. He explained that when wearing a low v-neck shirt or bathing suit the natural wrinkles in the implant may be seen. Putting the implant above the muscle may expose these wrinkles, causing them to look very unnatural. Women who are naturally lean or athletes who maintain low body fat percentages run a higher risk of visible wrinkles in their implants when they choose to go over the muscle.

Another reason Dr. Galante recommended going under the muscle was for longevity and protection. Putting the implant underneath the muscle provides a home for the implants. There is much less flexibility under the muscle. The implants will remain pretty much where they are placed unless something severe causes them not to be.

I know someone who decided to go over the muscle for her BA. She is not positive how or what caused this to happen, but her breasts ended up shifting to the sides. Needless to say she had to have them redone and go through the procedure and healing process all over again. Dr. Galante wants his work to last as long as possible and feels the best way to follow through is by going underneath the muscle. Even though there will be a longer recovery period I am confident that this is the best option for me. Not working my chest as hard as I have become accustomed to will be challenging at first, but it will free up some of my time spent at the gym. I sure as heck know I do not want to go through this again anytime soon.

Stripped. The story behind my breast augmentation.

Hello everyone. My name is Sabrina, I am a 25 year old woman who is about to make a huge step in my life. I will have Breast Augmentation surgery next Friday June 30th in Munster, Indiana. I am 5'1" with a petite frame and have always been small chested. The size of my chest was never really an issue for me, but I have always admired those with voluptuous nice breasts. Being pretty conservative I would never have thought in a million years that I would be having plastic surgery. I guess as that ancient proverb goes "never say never," is not bad advice after all.

I am a total health nut, but about two years ago I became really interested in competitive bodybuilding. Weight lifting is my addiction (if I must confess). With proper diet and exercise my body began to see amazing results. People that know anything about bodybuilding know the number one characteristic of a bodybuilder is symmetry. Therefore, I have also trained my chest to match the rest of my body. As a result I have little left there and the remains kind of resemble a deflated woopie cushion (really weird). My chest is like muscle, muscle, muscle, oh... what is this?!

Anyhow, my Mother has the same body type as I do and had breast augmentation surgery about a year and a half ago. She was never bothered by the fact she had small breasts either, but also joked about possibly one day having the surgery. I guess it was only a joke for so many years because of the expense, but expense was no longer an issue for her. The joke that had gone on for so long turned into reality. Prior to my Mother's experience I was very judgmental about plastic surgery and just plain ignorant. I thought that breast augmentations were for people with low self esteem, people that were desperate for attention, and those that have had to have reconstructions done after more serious issues. After my Mother's surgery and recovery I saw what an amazing difference it had made. She looks amazing in just about any article of clothing you can imagine, completely feminine, and extremely natural. It was also very exhilarating to see my Mother do something so outside her norm and if this is good for her it is absolutely good for me!

My Mother was referred to Dr. Galante by a close family friend. She has had numerous procedures done with Dr. Galante and I am positive if she had not referred my Mom she would not have gone through with the surgery. It was comforting to know someone really well and a bit about her experience beforehand. In addition, there is a huge difference between a picture of some strange person's before and after and a personal friend's before and after. After all of this there was no need to search for another Doctor. Dr. Galante is very charismatic and makes his patient's feel secure in their decisions. I also love the fact that he will not do anything that is unproportionate or not natural looking.
